Full-Time Position
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Full-Time Special Educator to join our team to provide specialized instruction for students in the Woodstock Union Middle and High School. Being grounded in restorative practices and social-emotional learning; understanding the inextricable relationship between social emotional, behavioral and academic success; and demonstrating a commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment where all students will succeed is a must.

About the Role
The Special Educator will:
- Support the instructional process by utilizing expertise in learning disabilities to partner with classroom teachers in order to design and modify program elements that allow students to access and engage with their learning
- Develop learning opportunities that integrate and balance specialized instruction and the goals of the IEP with learning form the general education environment
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, school psychologists, related services providers, the social emotional team and counselors to develop opportunities in and out of the classroom to facilitate student success in academics, interpersonal skills, and activities of daily living and provide an integrated, inclusive plan for developing the capacities of students.
- Deliver group and individual student instruction
- Coordinate productive, effective, and efficient use of assigned paraprofessionals.
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) in collaboration with students, families, general education teachers, and other support staff.
- Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing in order to design and differentiate instruction to meet the unique learning styles and needs of each student, utilizing evidence-based practices and strategies.
- Incorporate restorative practices and social-emotional learning principles into daily instruction and classroom management. Work with our Social Emotional Team to promote positive behavior and conflict resolution skills.
- Create a cohesive and supportive learning community and maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members by participating in team meetings, professional development activities, and school-wide initiatives.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress, assessments, and behavioral interventions
- Communicate regularly with families and stakeholders by conducting conferences and corresponding regularly with parents, students, principals, and teachers to provide updates on student performance and growth.
What We’re Looking For
The ideal candidate will:
- Bachelor's degree in special education or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
- Hold or be eligible to hold a valid Vermont teaching license with an endorsement in special education.
- Experience working with middle school and/or high school students with diverse learning needs, including those with social cognition, behavioral, and social-emotional needs.
- Attention to detail and special education rules, rugs and timelines.
- Knowledge of evidence-based instructional strategies, assessment methods, and intervention techniques.
- Experience training and supervising paraeducators providing support services to special needs students.
- Experience in planning, leading, and managing large and potentially complex IEP meetings with students, parents, teachers, outside agencies, community mentors, and other support people.
- Participation in a professional/teaching-learning community group or similar learning community
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
